How the grade works

Every game earns a Game Score, an adaptation of Dom Luszczyszyn's single-number rating built from the box score. Skaters get credit for goals, assists, shots, blocks, takeaways, and plus-minus and lose some for giveaways and penalties. Goalies get credit for saves and lose more for each goal against.

Current form weights the last 10 games, each game back counting 0.85× the one after it, and blends in 2 games' worth of league average so a hot weekend doesn't outgrade a steady month. That form is ranked against everyone at the same position, and the percentile sets the grade.

How attributes are rated

Each attribute blends a few real stats, rated against every player at his position over the last two seasons. Shooting uses goals and shots per 60, high-danger shots, goals above expected, and shot speed. Playmaking uses assists and points per 60 and power-play scoring. Skating uses NHL EDGE top speed, bursts over 20 mph, and distance per game. Defensive Awareness uses Corsi, relative Corsi, takeaways, and penalty-kill minutes. Physicality uses hits, blocks, and penalty minutes. Each lands on a 40–99 scale.

The NHL doesn't publish shot-by-shot expected goals, so ixG here is an approximation from EDGE shot locations. It counts shots on goal only, not missed or blocked attempts.
